YOUR NONPROFIT GROWTH ASSESSMENT RESULTS:
You’ve Got the Basics!
Maybe you are just starting and sounds like you need some help scaling up your infrastructure and nonprofit knowledge base to make your nonprofit a reality. You are probably still working on defining your programs and setting up the systems you need to grow. In the initial stages, you should focus on creating the structure that will allow you to launch your ideas and start looking for supporters.
Some of the steps we recommend for your organization at this stage include:
Watch this video on How to Start a Nonprofit. This workshop will explore the work that you need to do to start the process of filing for your organization's 501c3 status, if you haven’t yet, and help you decide if this is the right business model for you.
Set up the basic infrastructure you need. Decide on a name, mission, and vision.
Start recruiting your initial governing board of directors. All nonprofits are legally required to have a Board of Directors. For example, in California, you are required to have a minimum of 3 board members. Here are the requirements in every state and additional information how to start a nonprofit in California.
Apply for your 501c(3) status. Without officially being a nonprofit, it won't be easy to get the funding to start operating. Here is a blog on how to categorize your organization.
Once you have the basic infrastructure and a strong network of support, you can focus on designing your programs and the additional infrastructure you will need to create measurable impact. If you have any questions about how to start your nonprofit, email us. We are always happy to help!
